School sponsorship
The Langley Heritage Society encourages appreciation of heritage awareness in school children. Over the years we’ve sponsored selected schools to attend programs at the Langley Centennial Museum and the Society has paid bus transportation. We have also committed $60,000 to salishan Place by the River to equip classrooms in the new cultural centre currently under construction (expected to open in 2024).
At Lochiel One Room School, a typical day in the 1920s.
We received these comments from teachers who have participated in the program:
“I would like to say a big thank you for supporting our class educational experience. Our class had a wonderful time at the Langley Centennial Museum thanks to your program support. All of the students enjoyed the educational experience. Thank you so much for all your efforts. They are appreciated and the field trip was a success. The students were filled with smiles and laughter and shared the experience with other staff and family members once we returned to the school. The students said “it was awesome”. A positive experience for everyone was enjoyed by your generous efforts and funding.”
“I’m a teacher at Parkside Centennial Elementary, in the Langley school district. You sponsored our class to partake in a program at the Langley Heritage Museum, that was about immigration and multiculturalism. The content fit right in with our Social Studies curriculum. My students benefitted from being on this field trip. I very much appreciate that your Society sponsors classes for field trips. There are some students whose families find it a struggle to pay for the “extras” of learning, such as field trips. As long as the Society is willing to do this generous deed for teachers and students, I will be taking advantage of this deed! Thanks again. Regards, Karen Rudyk”
Langley Heritage Society has also been pleased to support assist with judging at Heritage Fairs held in Langley schools. More information on B.C. Heritage Fairs can be found here.
