Christmas Sparkle

Things are looking a lot cheerier at the CNR Station, thanks to the efforts of CUPE Local 403 Township of Langley Municipal workers and Your Local Community volunteers. They collaborated to string LED energy efficient lights and tidy up the site. Thanks so much for helping make this heritage site sparkle for the Christmas season! Take a stroll at Mavis Avenue and Glover Road in Fort Langley. CNR Station manager Helen Williams (L) with volunteer elves. Thanks CUPE Local 403 and Your Local Community!

Safety First

Thanks to Dave Hockin for painting a new line along the edge of the Fort Langley CN Station's platform. It's quite a drop down from the platform to the rail bed, please be careful -- especially with children. Rail Safety Week begins September 19th and you'll learn more from a CN Police Constable who will provide information in our heritage garden.  More on being Rail Smart HERE.

Down At The Station

The Township of Langley has added new recycling/garbage bins directly in front of the historic CN Station. Please help us keep our site clean and use these bins while visiting. The Township has done a fine job creating a new sidewalk, signage, fencing and a garden plot at the Glover Road & Mavis Street intersection. Take a stroll on our station platform and visit the heritage garden.

Down at the Station

A July summer's eve at the CN Station in Fort Langley. Built in 1915, it was restored by the Langley Heritage Society and continues to be one of Fort Langley's most popular heritage locations.

Speeder Tune-Up

It was all hands on the track as the CNR Station's Fairmont gas speeder was lifted onto a flatbed and driven to the BC Farm Museum. Thanks to these volunteers the speeder will  be undergoing repairs and getting a spring tune-up.  Motorized speeders were used by maintenance crews and track inspectors beginning in the late 1800s.  These days, crews usually drive trucks specially outfitted with flanged wheels to ride on the tracks. The Langley Heritage Society also has a people-powered velocipede in its collection, a favourite of children when it's on display in the summer (see photo at bottom).

CN Station Goes National

Looking good. The Fort Langley CN Station received some Canada-wide exposure recently at the end of the Global National broadcast. Nice shot, Douglas Chambers!

Valley Voices for September

Valley Voices journeys to historic Clayburn, B.C.'s first company town built in 1905. Bricks baked from clay that was mined at nearby Sumas Mountain were shipped around the world. The Clayburn Village Community Society is keeping the story alive at its museum, housed in the basement of the old school house. Also, an excerpt from Langley Heritage Society's "Wheels of Time" -- a short play presented by Creative Compass Society at the 1915 CNR Station in Fort Langley. Listen HERE.
