Marr Memories: Get Me To The Church On Time

Benjamin and Drew Marr (Langley Centennial Museum) Wedding Day Mishap As told by Ann Marr, granddaughter of Benjamin & Drew Marr “My grandparents were married on September 10th, 1913, on a Wednesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church (now St. Andrews). This is the story of the events that I grew up with: The best-man was Dr. M.C. Bagnall, who arrived at Jardine Station from Vancouver on the B.C. Electric Railway. Grandfather was there to meet him with a spirited team of for the two mile trip back to Fort Langley. All went well and at a fast clip, until not too far from their new home, a trace broke causing the wheels to jam. 100th Anniversary of Armistice: Langley Heritage Society Donates Important Resource to Local Schools

Langley School Trustee Chair, Rob McFarlane (left) and Jim Foulkes, Director Langley Heritage Society during the book presentation, on September 25, 2018 (Photo Credit:  Ken Hoff, Communications Manager, SD 35) The Langley Heritage Society has recently donated copies of the book, Canucks in Khaki: Langley, the Lower Mainland and the Great War of 1914 to 1918 to every school in Langley School District 35.  The book, written by BC author, Warren Sommer, is a finely researched documentation of the experiences of Langley participants in the First World War, both in the trenches of Europe and also on the home front.  Mark Forsythe, Langley Heritage Society Vice President, described the book as “a masterful survey of how British Columbia’s men, women, and communities rose to the greatest challenge of their lives.” This year, November 11, 2018 takes on special significance as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the [...]

LHS Speakers

LHS president Fred Pepin welcomed 50 people who filled Milner Church to hear community heritage partners speak about upcoming activities on February 18th. Warren Sommer outlined his new Great War book, Canucks in Khaki; Allan Snowie from the Museum of Flight detailed a project to build two Sopwith aircraft and fly them during 100th anniversary commemorations this spring at Vimy; Maureen Pepin described the new We Are Kwantlen exhibit at the Langley Centennial Museum; Doris Riedweg outlined plans for a new archival project from the Langley Memorial Hospital Heritage Committee; Brigitte Wieronski zeroed in big plans at the Fort Langley National Historic Site during this sesquicentennial year, and Todd Davidson looked ahead to activities at the BC Farm Museum.
