Langley Heritage Society featured in BC History Magazine

The fall issue of British Columbia History Magazine puts the spotlight on the Langley Heritage Society, and long time volunteer, Fred Pepin. Read the Time Travels column HERE. British Columbia History Magazine is published by the British Columbia Historical Society, an umbrella organization for the province's historical societies -- including the Langley Heritage Society. The non-profit organization celebrates 100 years in 2022.

Hidden Railways?

Is this part of an old railway trestle just south of Murrayville on 40th Avenue? We checked some old maps and quizzed railway history expert Gerry Landsman. "They definitely look like "pillars", or "bents" that were part of a trestle. The question is, are they from the V.V. & E. or one of the sawmills that occupied that area." Hidden Railways of Langley

Great Northern Railway crew at Hall’s Prairie in Surrey (Langley Centennial Museum photo) We recently received an intriguing question from Joan who lives in Langley: "We live on 40 Ave and believe a train used to cross through or next to our property. We have some ancient pillars in the creek at the back that probably held up the trestles. Would you have any photos or information on this train? Thanks!"   Joan lives just south of the Five Corners near Murrayville. (We'll refrain from giving the exact street address.)
